    PA Hunter living in VA

Hi y'all! I'm 69 this year and still like to hunt and shoot. I'm living in Fredericksburg, VA; but do , most of my hunting with my oldest son, in PA. The area around Fredericksburg used to have a lot of opportunities for public hunting (paper company tree farms are numerous in this area); but the last 20 years or so has seen most of those opportunities gobbled up by Hunt Clubs who lease an entire property and "sell" memberships to a select few; or land that is simply closed to the public due to abuse and lack of respect for the land by hunters.

As a result of these closures; I have resigned myself to hunt with my oldest son for bear and spring gobbler around Sigel, PA; and deer around Portersville / Ellwood City, PA.

Yeah, I know there are cheaper ways to hunt; but then I wouldn't be hunting with my son and his friends. It's worth it to me to spend that "quality time" with my 49 year old son who remained in PA when his Mom and I moved to VA with his "little brother", a non-hunter who is now 45 and married with 2 beautiful kids.

At any rate, I have owned many guns over the years; but my arsenal has been trimmed down to a very functional collection of 4 rifles (Savage Model 11 DOA in .338 Federal, Savage Model 11 SS in .308 Win., Ruger M77 Mark II in .270 Win, and Ruger 10/22), 1 shotgun (Rem. 11-87SP slug & turkey) and 3 handguns (Ruger P-95 DC 9mm, SW VE .40 cal. and Hungarian? .380).

I hope to be able to hunt and shoot for at least another 10 years or so . . . the good Lord willing. Looking forward to absorbing a lot of useful info from this site; and maybe even making a contribution of my own now & then.

    Best regards,
    Dave Calahan
