Welcome aboard
Howdy! I Paul, and I go by Curiousrelic on most forums. Don't post much, but lurk and learn. Years ago I had a Savage 110 in .30-06. It was a great rifle, ugly as sin and twice as heavy, but shot tight groups. The siren song of lightweight Model 7s pulled me from that one, and I've regretted the loss over the years.
I picked up a Savage Trophy Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor this fall, and dropped two deer with it, and promptly got bitten by the Savage bug again. I enjoy building (Lego style) rifles, and now I am waiting for a Model 10 action to arrive at my local FFL dealer. I'll build it out as a dual purpose rifle in 6x45. My daughters will use it on deer, and I'll use it as a calling rig for coyotes.
Looking at McGowan for a barrel, and don't know where it will eventually wind up. I'll probably stage it over time. I expect it will wear a pretty simple stock with blind mag for a while until I sort out DBM versus blind box versus hinged floor plate. This will be a project I work on with my girls. They've helped me build an AR out to their specs, and I am sure they will enjoy working on this as well.
I'm looking forward to learning more as I go along, and I appreciate all I have learned already browsing the forum.
