Why don't we have to pay a fee and be subject to a background check before obtaining a license to engage in Constitutionally guaranteed rights such as FREE SPEECH? Or to join a church? Or not be forced to give testimony against ourselves in criminal matters? But we do before we can keep and bear arms? Is there a double standard as to which rights our founding fathers thought important?

Banning a gun will not solve what is a mental health crisis inflamed by incendiary rhetoric on social and television media. The first amendment in this case is less precious and more likely the causal factor than the second amendment.
