    Question Length of pull

How do you measure your exact length of pull? I'm going to re-stock a Savage model 12 LRP with a wood laminate.

They say "Don't try this at home"... so I'm headed over to a friend's house.

Thanks for the info. I wonder if it changes when shooting prone?

Yes, it can shift around depending on your body position, but usually not too much. I would do your measurement based on the position you plan on taking most often, but also in other potential positions and see how much it varies.

Yes. The optimum length of pull changes in all three shooting positions. If you shoot XC with a match rifle or smallbore, you typically change both the length of pull and hand-stop position (sitting & prone only) for each stage to get the most relaxed and comfortable. For me, the lower I get to the mat, the longer the length of pull I want. Service rifle & hunting rifles are pretty much make do with the one stock length of pull and try to get as comfortable as you can working around it.

Try it by taking the recoil pad off your existing stock to see just how short you want to go to get comfortable. Shorter is usually the best compromise length of pull for folks who live up north... since you will be wearing heavy clothes part of the year (instead of just a T-Shirt and shooting coat in the summer :) )
