It can happen if you mix up your ammo, saw this happen in a rifle match when a rifle failed and was afforded another rifle to use (lent rifle was 30/06) and he was firing 308 stretched out cases straight out so it can happen just be careful.

    I wouldn't worry about it.
Bullets just rattled their way down the barrel but were too small to create any over pressure.
I cant think of any scenario where the situation you describe would have done any damage.
Just out of curiosity did you hit what you were shooting at? :)

Don't sweat it, except for chalking it up to a learning experience, you didn't harm the rifle. It is probably dirty in the bore now (without the bullet forming a seal in the barrel, you usually don't get an efficient burn of all the propellant.) Clean it, then shoot the correct ammunition in it.

Likely didn't even touch the barrel. If it did, is was minimal. I used to shot a TCU cartridges a lot and I'd fire form brass by shooting 223 in the 7mm barrel. And that gun remains stupid accurate. I also have a 25 cal wild cat on 204 Ruger brass. I just fire 204 Ruger in it to fire form and then load my 25 cal loads.

Dad's .270 didn't fare as well when he accidentally shot it with a .308 in the chamber.
He said it was odd when the bolt closed hard, then sounded funny when he pulled the trigger. He realized his mistake when he couldn't open the bolt. GS had to fix the bolt head, otherwise it still shoots great.

I saw a woman shoot a 30/30 in a 41 mag Contender pistol. The only thing that happened was that the 30/30 brass was stuck and had to be knocked out with a brass rod.

I'll bet the accuracy sucked, but the barrel life will be exceptional.

Just the other day a friend fired 5 .222 Rem cartridges in his Sako .223. It fireformed the brass and printed pretty good on the target! He only noticed because of a split neck on one of the cases.
