    While I'm glad to see the change to the MagPul PRS G3 stock, I loathe the new extended rail over the barrel. Now one has to mount the scope higher to ensure the objective bell clears this unnecessary extension.

    Very good point about having to mount the scope higher.
    Having no rail on the forend would give the end user the choice weather they want to install one on top of the whole forend, or just a small section at the end of the forend, or no rail at all.

    looking at the pictures, the front rail looks like it could be removed.

    If you go to the Savage website it shows it minus the extension so it must be optional, but when you look at the rifle's purpose who would be mounting anything that far out front anyway? I can't imagine a long eye relief scope on that rifle.
