Straight 1.25" barrel on a Savage with a nut?

Yes, Yes you can. here is a straight 1.25" barrel on a Savage action using a barrel nut and recoil lug. The lug is bigger because of the previous use of the barrel but any thickness would work just fine.

It's kind of hard to tell from the picture, does the barrel shank have a shoulder cut into it for the nut to sit in? Are you still headspacing it off the nut, or are you headspacing it off the shoulder? Is there a gap between the nut and shoulder when it's on and headspaced?
