    Long cartridge for competition ?

Know that since the development of the 6 PPC back in the 1970's, everyone builds competition target rifles on short length fat cartridges.

How long has it been since anyone gave a 30/06 or H&H length cartridge a serious try in any national or world level target competition ?

I compete in my local F-Open 600 yard shoots and I also chamber my own barrels and build my rifles. I thought for fun I'd take my uncle up on a challenge to try a 30-06. It didn't take long to shelve that project. The 06 had much more recoil, developed much more heat using much more powder, E.S. was tough to keep under 20 fps. My 6 BR-DX absolutely ran circles around it for less powder, less recoil, cheaper bullets. If you want to do it to be different go for it but just realize there's a reason almost nobody competes with them anymore.
