New from MO - Should I take the plunge?

I've been debating getting a Savage and after doing more research I believe I may do so soon with a current model. I've been toying around with the idea of that or going with a Tikka t3x forest. I know quite a few people who've built some very nice precision shooters off of savage platforms. I'm looking to get a hunting rifle that I can also use for a little distance shooting.

I also have the opportunity of picking up what seems to be a first generation 110. Serial number is 31xxx. The wooden stock is beautiful and current owner states that it shoots perfectly fine. It's a 30-06 and comes with a Leupold LPS 1.5-6 x 42. He's asking $550 for it. Should I pull the trigger on it?

Savage punches over it's price point, I never met a Tikka owner who wasn't delighted.

    Get both!

If this helps, my guess is the rifle alone is worth at least $300. If the wood is as appealing as you say, it could be worth a lot more. Purely subjective. Savager 10/110's are, generally speaking, very accurate rifles. If the scope suits your needs/wants, it may very well be worth $250. If it doesn't suit your application, you'll want to sell it. I don't know what you might get for it. If you can get $200, I'd say the package is a good buy.
