    .308WIN loads

    G'day guys

I have a weather warrior 1:10" twist .308 that has been glass bedded, and had a new rifle basix trigger installed. I have a load for 150gn TSX that shoot sub .5" MoA. But i'm having trouble with the sierra gamekings in both 150gn and 165gn.. On the topic of not shooting it sprays 168gn Nosler BT's all over the place...

Has anyone got a starting point load for?? I understand that your pet load won't mean it will shoot in my gun but it gives me a ball park to play in...

    Thanks in advance....

    greatdane

My stock 308 loves 175SMKS with CCI primers and 43.5grns Varget, Just my gun!

    Pretty deadly @ 600yds!

The 150gr gameking is my regular hunting bullet in my 308, I run it over 47 gr of Varget, this is right at maximum in my rifle in cool weather, in the summer I have to back off a little or it will pierce primers. Last year I took a good 4 X 4 mule deer buck at 275 yards and a cow elk at 190 yards with this load
I have not tried the 165s, I have not tried the Nosler BTs yet either but it does shoot 150gr Partitions pretty good, but the gamekings are still the most accurate in my rifle.

My .308 model 10 ( 1:10 also) loves the Nosler 168 gr. Match BTHP. 1/2 inch at 200 yards when I do my part. 42 Gr of Varget or same amout of RL15 ...mild load but very accurate.
But this rifle loves lot of other bullets also...from 150 Gr up to 170 gr. Dont know why yours has that much trouble with the heavier bullets....barrel getting hot and changing point of impact?

varget and re-15 in 308's are all i've ever needed, got quite a few other poweders on hand, but never had a need to try them. as a general rule i use re-15 in my gas guns and varget in my bolt guns
God still loves you,   yep even on them days....

First of all, if it likes the Barnes load, just smile and feed it that.

I have worked with a few .308's. As far as my best luck with powders, I would put them in this order:
    (1) H4895
    (2) RL-15
    (3) Varget

A guy that I know has worked up more .308 loads than anyone I personally know, swears buy the new IMR 8208. He told me that he has seen 2 mysteries over the years that he hasn't figured out yet, First is how is it that FGMM ammo shoots so well in so many .308's, and Second why does 8208 work so well in so many .308's? I haven't tried it yet but I fully plan to.
