    AR Newbie - Savage MSR?

Ok, getting ready to order my first AR, an MSR Patrol. I've been told that I can simply replace the upper and barrel with a .300 (for legal deer hunting in Indiana) and that's it, everything else, the lower and mag will work fine with the .300 ammo, is that right?

Will a suppressor work for both calibers? .223 and .300? Any recommendations on which one to get?

To answer your first question, yes. A barrel swap is all you need to take your .223/5.56mm to a .300 AAC.

As for the second question, I *think* you'll need a .30 caliber supressor but don't hold me to that. I'm not near educated enough IRT supressors to be trusted fully.

I think you mean an UPPER swap.

Yes, he would need a .30 caliber suppressor to work with both .300 Blackout and .223/5.56. Bad things happen when you try to shoot a .30 caliber bullet through a .224 caliber suppressor.

Barrel and muzzle device are the only parts different between a .223 upper and a .300 AAC upper. The receiver, BCG, gas system, etc are all the same.

Thanks, that's what someone had told me earlier, that will make it somewhat easier on the budget! Just a barrel and I should be good to go, well, plus optics now, but I can put that upper money into that instead.

Well duh, BUT....by the time you spend the money to buy the tools to change the barrel yourself you might as well just buy a complete upper and eliminate the hassle of having to swap barrels back and forth on the same upper. Given how cheap .300 AAC upper assemblies are right now (starting around $250) it's pretty much a no-brainer.
