except that it's based upon the 6.8 SPC instead of the 6.5 PPC and is intended for use in AR's.
Possible that Remington is coming out with it at shot show 2018??
Anyone have some information on the development and purpose? Is it just another new ammo for AR15 or does it serve some specific purpose such as long range sniping in a lighter platform?

I have heard rumors that Savage was playing around with a 22-caliber cartridge that Bob Greenleaf had come up. I don't recall the specifics on the cartridge, but Fred would probably know if this is it or not as he talks to Bob on occasion. If it is the one Savage is playing with it would only make sense that the brass would be Federal since they're both subsidiaries of Vista.

With respect to the cartridge, I do know a little about the Valkyrie but am not really allowed to share most of what I know because it comes from friends in the industry. As soon as there is a public release, I'll share as much as I can. I can tell that it is a new cartridge and not based on anything developed by Bob Greenleaf.

Will be interesting to see what they finally come up with for velocities on the varmint bullets; and what they are really trying to sell. Not unlike with the 223 WSSM, warp speeds and fast twists can easily destroy varmint bullet jackets. Nosler BT's and Sierra tipped varmint bullets have the strongest jackets, but can only withstand about 320,000 RPM. Of course individual barrel smoothness can play a large part in the final number.

Same basic idea but the case geometry has been changed to allow heavy, high-BC projectiles to be loaded to AR-15 mag length. The practical limit for the 22 Nosler is really a 77gr SMK/Custom Competition bullet. Also, the Valkyrie does not use a rebated case head, instead using a standard 6.8 bolt face.
I'm switching my 22 Nosler over to 22 Nosgar due to the brass being mangled. Valkyrie probably won't have that problem. Don't know why you'd want to run a 90 gr 22 bullet though.

A .563 BC bullet going 2700 fps out of a 20" barrel might be a useful for long range shooting.

It has about 70" less drop at 1000 yards when comparing the Gold Medal Valkyrie load (20" barrel) to the Federal Gold Medal Berger load in 6.5mm Grendel (24" barrel).
My short time with the new Valkyrie.
i believe Robert Whitley 6mm AR has already done this. in fact i believe his wildcat actually performs a.little.better. Made for AR15. Don't know why anyone would use these pretty anemic cartridges like the grendel and such in a bolt gun but they are the best it gets in an AR15. this one is a necked down grendel. case is a little bigger so a little.more.powder and a little more velocity.

He calls it the Beast. Pretty much what I'm doing with the Nosgar. 6mm Hagar Hornady brass necked to 22 caliber. Plus you use 6.8 mags that will give a little longer COL=more powder.
