Need some expert advice, will a Model 10 small shank barrel fit a Marlin X7L? Have been told direct and simple swap, True or not???

My understanding is that you would need to check case protrusion to the bolt face depth. The protrusion needs to be greater than the bolt face depth. Either way it is an easy fix with a lathe.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

I did a 30-06 Criterion barrel onto an XL-7. Some might go together and all the clearances check out but mine was too tight between breech face and bolt head face, only about .002 clearance. I chucked the barrel up in my lathe and took a few thou off the face and set the clearance at .008". Shoots great for a 30-06, we've had it out to 1200 yards.

I had to do the exact same thing with my XS7 that I put a Shilen, Savage pre-fit barrel on. Mine had zero clearance before machining the breech face.
