Whats the deal with the Axis II?

Handled an Axis II the other day in a LGS. It had the Accutrigger. Other than the cheap tupperware stock How are the guts of this rifle any different from the comparable Savage models?

With the exception of the Accutrigger, it's entirely the same as a regular Axis.

I just bought a regular Axis, lightened the trigger with an after market kit to 3.5 #, and dropped it in a Boyd's thumb hole stock. It is a total tack driver. IMO, save your money on the Axis II, buy the Axis, and upgrade your stock.

Axis 2 is available with a Boyd's hardwood stock. 2 birds one stone.

I saw the hardwood stock version, but it didn't mention it was a Boyd's. It certainly wasn't this one:

If memory serves, the stock on the hardwood variant is solid beech, which isn't bad. It doesn't have the allure of even the most workmanlike walnut, but it's a good wood for a stock.

No thumb hole or anything fancy, I'm sure DrThunder knows more about it than I do.

The wooden stock doesn't look bad. If it is shaped like the plastic stock, that's a good thing, IMO, because while flimsy, I like the shape of the plastic stock.

The profile of the standard Axis stock has its comb a bit too low for me when using a scope, but the same could be said for most factory stocks. I expect it has more to do with bolt removal than providing good cheek weld to those with John Kerry-length faces.
