That cartridge may require a large shank barrel and action that will accept those barrels. The Winchester WSM's case is similar but a tad larger allowing a little more powder capacity that could be critical difference in some situations.
1st of all let me startby saying hello. I've look at the forums off and on for some time and enjoy the wealth of info. here.
I am looking to build a new longrange hunting gun, I am buying a model 10 ( used ) in .243 win. I would like to build a 7 saum on this action what would I need to change as far as the action goes and would the 7 saum be ok on this model.
Thanks for any help.
God bless
Andy

Thanks for the reply. Do think the 7mm-08 would be a better choice or maybe even 6.5-284?
For better barrel life, I'd go with the 7mm/08, a very accurate and capable cartridge.

For a hunting rifle, I would choose a 284 over a 6.5X284, unless the only thing I was hunting is pronghorn. Better barrel life than the 6.5X284 and many quality hunting rounds available for it.Originally Posted by JANDY
I really like the 7mm-08, it is a nice shooter with mild recoil.
Both will work with the action and bolt from the 243 donor.
