    Ptg or CDI bottom metal?

In the market for bottom metal metal for my stagger feed short action 243. I like the price of the PTG at $168.00 but it looks like it protrudes a considerable amount. The CDI is $209.00. Just not sure if one is better than the other since I have never had aftermarket bottom metal. I will inlet this myself too. Thanks!

I like bottom metal that protects the magazine. I use Surgeon Bottom metal and will use Hawkins which is the same design/footprint on my next build (Not a Savage). If I was picking I would go with the PTG because of that reasoning. The CDI will function well, but if you run the magazine into anything it can interrupt feeding or jam the magazine into the bolt making it difficult to cycle.

Only problem with the PT&G bottom metal is no one inlets stocks for it. CDi will inlet most any stock to accept theirs for you, whereas with PT&G you have to find someone willing to do it for you. The CDi is also a option on the Manners stocks these days, so if you're going whole-hog and buying one of those you can order the stock ready to drop in the CDi hardware.

Thanks for the help. I have ordered a PTG for my 22-250 AI. Website says it will fit in standard Savage bottom metal inlets. I may still do CDI in the 243.

If it does that's new as their original design didn't.

Installed the PTG centerfeed bottom metal today. Had to sand down the sides of the magwell with a dremel quite a bit. It does fit the outline of factory bottom metal and functions perfectly with my 22-250AI. Thanks for the help guys. I am happy.

The original factory style inlet was done by me with a dremel.

Well at least the PT&G works with the Magpul mag's. Just got the Accurate Mag bottom metal in the mail and no joy with the Magpul's. It's close, very close, but no dice. The 10rd will fit in from the top, but it's snug without an ounce of wiggle room left. The 5rd will just barely start in from the top. Looks to me like there is a slight radius in the cut on the bottom leg that holds the catch latch that sticks out a little further and that's what's preventing them from starting in from the bottom.

Suffice to say it's getting shipped back for a refund tomorrow.

Well that bites. As luck would have it I just discovered my MagPull AICS will also work in my RPR and allow use of Hornady 108gr ELDs. They were to long for the stagger feed MagPulls supplied with the RPR.
