I started building my 7.62x39 Model 10 last year when I lived in Missouri and I just moved to Texas and unboxing all my stuff I found the gun and forgot I hadn't head spaced it.
    Specs are

X-Caliber Stainless barrel (factory hog hunter profile)
    SMOOTHE BARREL NUT
    Converted top bolt release
    DBM
Richard Microfit Custom Rollover AAA fancy claro walnut stock
    Nikon Team Promos 3-9x40
    Weaver rail

Are you trying to get head space gauges? What do you need help with?

I need to headspace the gun. I don't have the gauges or the smoothe nut wrench. The gunsmiths I've called don't have the wrench or are extremely expensive

You can rent the headspace gauges from Reamer Rental for $7. Sharp Shooter Supply has the smooth nut wrench for $58 + shipping.

I still don't have a Vice set up at my new house yet so even if I had the wrench and I have the gauges I still couldn't do it

If it hasn't been snugged up yet I would recommend getting rid of the smooth barrel nut, They may look nicer, but they are a true pain to work with. The Smooth barrel Nut wrenches are insufficient in removing them and I would have little faith in it holding up as required.

It hasn't been tightened but this is going to be a nice looking gun and it looks way nicer than the standard so it's staying on

So add a barrel vise to the shopping list. Here's several options for under $40.

If you wanna play DIY gunsmith ya gotta pony up and by the proper tools. I'm not trying to be an a$$, just stating the obvious here. You've been around here a while and this isn't your first Savage rodeo - so as my dearly departed Dad used to say, "Piss or get off the pot."

I don't know who you have talked to so far, but maybe call a few of the decent gun ranges and see if they have a line on a good gunsmith. I would call Eagle Gun Range in Lewisville, maybe Frisco Gun Club, or Gunmaster in Plano (Gunmaster used to/may still have a gunsmith on premisis.) You are probably going to have a problem finding someone to wrench that smooth nut, I don't understand why a fluted one is out... you have a fluted bolt? It would make things easier...

Rhome is the other side of Texas Motor Speedway, its a ways away from the east side.

Gunmaster still has a service dept, and they are a decent retail supplier for reloading components, often times cheaper than Cabela's.

Charlie98- have you been to Blast n Past in downtown Whitesboro? (far north end of 377) Stop in there some day, they have a ton 'o stuff, and are more of an old fashioned gun store, lots of used stuff, not black rifle centric.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, you are a significant drive thru traffic away from the Collin Co. gun stores. Somewhere near Denton would be good for you.

When I lived in FtWorth, there was Elk Castle... I don't know if they are still there. Thing is, there are a bunch of gunsmiths in the DFW area, you may have to drive to see a good one that can accommodate your request.
