    Leupold VX6 3x18x44 Mounting Options?

I am lookingfor advise on mounting a Leupold VX6 3x18x44 to a Savage 116 long action. I want to go as light weight as possible.

Has anyone had any luck with using Talley lightweights? I know they have offsets, but don't think that will help. Has anybody tried turning them them around to face the opposite direction?
I don't think I can get the proper eye relief.

Also thinking about a DNZ rail ring offset combo.
    Any thoughts on this?

I can always go picatinny and rings, maybe aluminum.

    Any pictures would be great!
    Randy

Long actions get tricky as most of today's scopes are fairly short and don't offer enough real estate to allow for mounting on a L/A without using a Weaver or picatinney rail that allows you a wider range of positions to place the rings. I haven't owned or played with a long action in quite a while so I'm not going to be much more help than than. I'm sure others will chime in soon though.

    Must have misunderstood me.
I was agreeing that short scopes on a long action are a bugger!
Has anyone had success mounting this scope on a long action?

You can tell , I haven't been on your forum much.
I've been on Longrangehunting for about 5 years.
Farthest I've shot accurately is 1625 yards.
I love this sport and thanks for letting me hang for a bit.

I don't know the specs of the Leupold, but I do have a Cabella Guide scope, it has a pretty large Objective end, no issues mounting on a long action (1 inch tube).

I have had it on with Warne Medium bases and some bases that came with a Cabella Savage that had Nikon scope.

Warne rails but also have a Weaver 20 MOA that is reversed to deal with a knock off the vertical problem.

I run thick pads and getting a good sight picture is not a problem.

I've found on my long actions that the Picatinny rail is probably the easiest way to go... If you are going with a 0 MOA rail, then you might need Medium or Medium high rings. I have a Bushnell 4-12x42 on my TH XP 30-06 and it does allow me to adjust my scope for LOP.

My scope is still in the same rings that the XP package comes with.

I've tried several types of 2-piece scope mounts and rings on Savage SA and LA rifles over the years, including Talley and various Dove-tail mounts. The Burris Xtreme Tactical bases or Weaver Grand Slam bases (S405; extended front and S46; rear) with medium Burris Signature Zee rings work the best and they will give clearance for a 44mm objective bell. They also allow you to center the scope optics for best performance and protect the scope tube from ring marks.

    Jpdown,
That is a good option for me.
    Thanks for the details.
