If you're looking at shooting something that big, go with a custom action that has been designed from the ground up for the 338lm. Both the Savage and Remington actions were never designed for the chamber pressures and the recoil that these cartridges deliver.

If you just want to buy a complete rifle, this will be a good buy: https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...27+GREEN+338LM
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Ok the only Savage action that will work is the one they use on their 338 Lapua rifles. I would start with the 111 Long range hunter in 338 Lapua (http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/m...ONGRANGEHUNTER).

Basically it is very similar to their long action large shanks used in their 300RUM rifles but (There is always a but) They made some modification to the bolt etc.

So it has buy now price on gunbroker at $1059.00 and on Gun genie at my local shop $1,199.99 and the single shot 112MT $1001.99. That said compared to others on Gunbroker:
    FNM BALLISTA 338LAPUA 26IN FDE $6,999.00
    REM 700 MDT TC21 TAC 338LAPUA $2,843.99
    REM 700XCR LR TAC B 338LAPUA $2,090.99
    REM LE 700P MLR 338LAPUA $1,892.99
    SAV 110BA STLTH 338LAP 24B 5RD $1,375.99
    SAV 110FCP HS BA 338LAPUA 26B $1,460.99
    SAV 111 LR HNTR BA 338LAPUA $1,199.99
    SAV 112 MT BA RFL 338LAPUA 26B $1,001.99
    WBY MK-V ACUM BA RFL 338LAPUA $2,057.99
It is about half the price to get into the 338 Lapua game.

If you are looking for just an action the Surgeon actions are about $1200, a Kelby will run you $1500 and that does not come with any thing but the action. You can get a complete rifle for those prices.

from what I have read in the past, savage was the only manufacturer to build there 338 from the ground up, instead of use something off the shelf like most other manufacturers did. I own a 338LM 110 FCP. Awesome rifle. Buds gunshop was selling them around $1200 last I saw a few months back. Was going to get the stealth but wanted a longer barrel. Don't think you would go wrong picking a savage.

Savage would have been ok if they used a beefier action. Bigger lugs, bigger threading, ect. That's why I suggest in buying an action that's not Savage or Remington for 338LM.
