You didn't state what the intended use for the scope is, but you can probably answer some of your own questions.
First question I would have is how much power can I (affectively) use with the 60 power I now have?
Of coarse the answer could vary depending on location and air quality. Chances are you can rarely use more than 40x now, and that isnt great.
Eyepiece quality will play a larger roll in quality viewing, (meaning clear) than the size of the objective lens at some point, say 60mm.
As a rule, variable power eyepieces wont offer as clear a picture as a quality fixed power one. Same is true with rifle scopes.
Today however just about all scope makers are using the zoom eyepieces, except Kowa which still offers fixed power ones.
Of coarse you will hear from those who will claim how great their particular scope is, and it might well be for the use they have for a scope.
And it also might well be they have never compared it to others.
You will also hear about seeing bullet holes in white paper at 1000 yds, and on (some) days you will.
But what you probably wont hear is that on that same day others did also with a different brand scope.

One thing to remember about optics is that on a good day they all look pretty good.
On a poor day the better ones look better.
On a bad day none will look very good, even if it has a 100 mm objective.
