Just bear in mind that with all gun/scope package deals the scope is typically worth maybe $25, and whether or not it will even zero properly is always a crapshoot. The scopes usually supplied really add nothing to the value of the deal.

I was the same way until my most recent build, when I decided to finally open the wallet and plunk down for something decent... Now I pull out one of the "other" rifles and truly realize just how bad crappy optics are.

My step father put the cheapest tires he could buy on his Mercedes. He found out that chit don't fly when he tried that on moms car. She took it down and had some good tires put on her RS350 and told them they could put the cheap ones in the dumpster. UHHH, what where we talking about?
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

I avoid the free scopes now. I had 3 "kit" scopes on 3 different savages. My experience was all over the map. The worst never held zero. Went through 5 boxes of ammo trying to Zero. Replaced it with a $150 pro staff, had zero in 3 shots. Looks like the free one cost me $300(150 in ammo plus the $150 replacement scope). The other two scopes lasted a couple seasons. Feels like I replaced one every two years. The scopes were black (no insignia...that's probably a ⚠️ right there)

Also, Cabelas now have the 12FV on sale for $369. They are great rifles!
