    Load development

While working up a load for my Savage FCP-K in .308, I found a load with 43.3gr of Varget that shot a .35MOA group. The rifle is a 24in. fluted barrel, with factory stock and brake replaced with an AAC Cyclone can. Lapua brass, CCI br primers,175 SMK.

    Awesome

What did the groups look like on either side?

    What was the.velocity?

    Now can you repeat it?

My .308 likes.44gr varget with 168 gr berger hybrid

I'm not surprised. My model 11 .308 loves 43.5g of Varget under a 180 Accubond.

My 10T 308 shoots 178 ELD-X with 43.9 gr of varget. Can put 3 in a quarter when I don't flinch. Coal is 2.810. Tried getting close to the lands but it looked like a shot gun blast. Finished load development with the 200 ELD-X not to long ago and now working on the 208 ELD-M. Having good results with the heavier bullets. Considering trying the 185 juggernaut I hear are great bullets.
What's your coal loading the 175?

I have not started on seating depth yet so these are 2.80. I may not need to do anymore after this. I have another target with the same 43.3 that is almost as tight from last month.
I have one from last October where the 43.3 was about 2.0 in. without the suppressor.
The full load is freshly annealed and trimmed Lapua brass, CCI br primers, 175 SMK's with the 43.3 of Varget.

My FLCP-SR in .308 like 168 SMK, Lapua brass, Fed 210M primers with 44.5 gr of Varget, and the 175 SMK with 45.0 gr Varget. Average 5 shot group .400

My go-to load is 43gr IMR4320 under the 175TMK. It shoots nice tight groups, almost as good as yours, pretty consistently. 4320 is pretty similar to Varget so I imagine we're experiencing the same magic. I bought 5lbs of it when Varget was impossible to find and am still chipping away at it.

as far as col goes with the 178gr ELD-X in 308win, my 12FV shoots them w/43.5gr varget 5 shots .400" @ 100yds, with .035" jump to lands. i started working the load at .010"jump and worked to .040". i found that .035" jump to be the best by far.

I smile when I see loads like your's. I found that the best load for 175/178 gr bullets in my .308 was 43.5 gr of Varget about 8 years ago. Since then I can't count the number of people who have settled on exactly the same charge weight, just with differing seating depths to match their specific rifle's chamber.

When I read posts saying "every rifle is different" I agree. I do find it interesting however how small those differences are for certain calibers, the .308 being one.

    Just an observation.
