    20 Practical

Thinking of a 20" Practical for use in the truck driving over a friends 40,000 acre ranch thinning the dog towns. (Just to let you know that it will be legal.) I don't think that the loss in velocity would be too great if I cut it at 22" rather than the usual 26" everybody seem to prefer? 32gr bullets are right at 4000fps from a 26", so shouldn't I still should have 3800 or better?

You can expect additional muzzle blast...but the in cab portability will be nice..

    My 25.5" 20 PT runs 40 moly V out at 3900 fps....why 25.5" ??

    The barrel was a 204 R for a short time....then rechambered to 20 PT...

Awesome cartridge to say the least....I prefer the 40s over the 32s

for better downrange performance....std 223 load of 26/H4895 works

very well in mine...new handle Jim ?? Haven't see ya around here in a while...

I have a 223AI with a 24"/1 in 14" twist barrel that shoots 35 and 40 grainers to those velocities. It seems to me that I can get a bit more velocity with a less restrictive twist for the same pressures.

Over abundance of cheap .223 brass to load the cartridge with would be the main thought. Kind of like when I built a 6X47 Rem instead of a 6X45. Now I'm stuck necking up .222 Rem Mag or .204 Ruger to make my cases. The .223 case would have been the more "practical" that is for sure.

Yes the 20 Tactical and 20 Practical are necked down 223 cases.
