30-06 vs 7mm recoil lug size

I have two Savage 110's. I have just noticed that the recoil lug on the 30-06 is thinner than the one on the 7mm. I assume this is because the magnum chamberings need a slightly thicker recoil lug, but that is purely speculative. The 30-06 is a 110E with an E serial number. THe 7mm has an F serial number. My assumption is that both barrel nuts are the same. I do not think the 7mm is a large shank barrel nut. They look the same. Is there a benefit to using one recoil lug over another for non-magnum loads, such as accuracy?

Your giving Savage too much credit. It was just chance that the 7mm got the thicker lug. :)
