    Extractor broke???

Today when testing my new scope my new to me 10 FP in .308 failed to extract. I took out the bolt and fiddled with the extractor which seemed to be "stuck" In the process the little "claw slipped out and I heard the dread sound of a part disappearing. I found the actual extractor, but the ball is gone. I put a #4 shot on the spring and it actually seems to work now. However, this can't be a satisfactory fix, so what to do? I see on another thread that a slightly larger ball may be a better solution than the original? What is the thinking on this?

    You'll need the spring too.........

The ball is a 1/8" steel ball bearing.....

Get 'em at Ace Hardware for ten cents each........

Surprisingly the spring stayed in the hole, which has me worried that it may be binding??

I have lost 2 balls to date & one extractor. Balls are as stated 1/8" steel, you can cut them out of a 1/4" locking pin at any farm supply place if you cant just fine a SS ball. Extractors ran me anout $2 each.
