    1956 model 99 buttplate

Title says it all. My 1956 vintage 99 is missing the buttplate and I'm having a hard time finding a proper replacement. I've already bought one and it didn't come close to fitting. Can anybody point me In the right direction for a proper replacement??

That's tricky. I've seen them fitted from the factory from wood slightly proud all around to buttplate perfectly flush with the wood. The metal buttplate is never proud of the wood from a proper factory rifle, IMO. Only way to do it is measure your stock for max height and width, then go shopping. if the screw holes throw the buttplate off when tightened, fill them and redrill to center buttplate.

More than likely you're going to have to go with one that's a little oversize and sand it down to match just like you would a pad.
