    Lets see, you have:
    a Model 12LRP 6.5CM
You need a firing pin assembly
And a bolt head to small firing pin bolt head

Where do we go from here? Are you changing something? Are you looking for a different size bolt face? Is the firing pin large or small that you are looking for?

Measure diameter of firing pin in front of firing pin stop nut. Small is right at 0.104 " Large 0.140" Most likely yours is small firing pin. While the firing pin is out, inspect tip for damage. Pierced primer may have damaged pin. Pierced primer could be caused by hot load. Clean bolt, primer pieces may be in it.

Have you actually been piercing thick cup primers, or not?

He's getting Remmy-centric advice. The actual pin diameters vary between .065"-.069" or so, you want the largest diameter pin you can find. If its already .068" or more don't change it. Dress up the pin head from a full hemisphere shape to more of a semi-hemi bowl shape. Then you want a bolt head with the smallest pin hole. Then set pin protrusion to .040" +/- .005", if you get light strikes/misfires bump it up a notch. Ignore pin cratering on hotter loads with never a pierce, don't ignore piercing. Use thick cup primers for hot loads, Rem 7 1/2, CCI450, CCI BR4, 205M, Tula SRM.

FYI Remmy small pins aren't appreciably smaller. Savages already have a small pin.

To me bushing a bolt head is a waste of money to try and solve a non-pierce problem, let 'em crater, it hurts nothing.

All recent Savage centerfire rifles have a small diameter firing pin.

Even if someone has a older savage with a thicker firing pin it doesn't mean they'll have problems piercing small rifle primers.

He's NOT referring to the intermediate diameter of the pin where it goes thru the bolt head retaining pin. he's referring to the tip diameter.

So were you actually piercing primers or not?

If you are actually piercing a 450 then something needs attention. Them suckers are tough.

You are above max load and having problems? Seems a little sketchy.

As others have stated, check firing pin protrusion.

Is the problem FTF or pierced primers? Pin protrusion is a potential issue for FTF but not the pierced primers. Pierced primers could be pin tip profile, hot loads with thin/soft primer cups or a combination of the two.

If you have been piercing primers then you bolt head may need to be thrown in the trash as the pin hole may be opened up from hot gasses cutting the hole oversized to the point it facilitated primer piercing when under normal circumstances it would not have happened. Don't bush it buy a new one in that case.

CCI #41 primer could solve your problem. hardest small rifle primer on the market. Even tho the cci450 has a hard cup, the cci #41 is even harder.

    worth a try.

Some like their stuff some don't. I do. The pro's on the bolt heads are in my opinion are. Backside radius deleted, faces are parallel, and the ones I have inspected they are uniform in depth at all faces. Con's Price.

Thx alot for the info Scott my pin diameter is .068 the set pin protrusion was .049 settting it back to .044 . im adjusting it then loading a round with just a primer and firing it will this work ok, the reason i ask is a protrusion of .034 will set off the primer i can adjust the firing pin in .010 increments. made it to the range after the fix every thing worked great thx again guys
