    stock queston

Gentlemen , quick question regarding stock stability. I recently bought an older stainless 116 in .300 winchester. It had a clubby birch stock that I have trimmed to suit me. If I bed the action and barrel in Marine Tex , will that be as stable as a full synthetic stock , provided I seal it well ? thanks

Bed the action to the rear action screw,(see below) not the tang. The Remington has a screw on the tang and those get bedded all the way to the rear. Bed the recoil lug, and some do two or three inches forward. Use pillars. There may be some good posts on here for this.

Edited: When I say bed to the rear action screw I meant to say as far back as the rear action screw.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

It will never be as stable as plastic, but it will be about as good as you need.
