    5" vs 2.50" Breech

    Hello,

I'm putting together a 300 win mag and have a Krieger Heavy Varmint barrel with a 5" breech. What is the difference or the benefit of a 2" vs a 5" breech? I want to cut this down to 26" and will be my 1500-1800 yd gun. The shortest distance I'll shoot it will be 800yds or so since I have a Scar 17 and LRP for 1200 yds and under. Does the breech length matter for any of this? I can always save this barrel for a .308 build and get one with a 2" breech.

    Thanks.

Either is fine I would think. If you leave 5", it will be heavier but you'd have meat left to set it back a couple of times if you wanted to. If you leave 2", lighter and probably easier to stock.

I see. I don't mind the weight, I like heavy bolt guns. Thanks for the reply.
