    Did you read about indexing to repeat headspace on another post or are you asking about indexing a barrel while chambering to get the bow of a barrel to aim at 12 oclock?

    You don't,just set headspace with gauges.

    I change barrels a lot, and I'd like to be able to set barrels to the "same" place. If we assume that the recoil lug is turned clockwise to its stop-very little movement anyhow-I think the recoil lug/nut with one prick punch on the joint and the nut/barrel with another prick would align the bbl/nut/recoil lug/action. BUT, each of the 4, bbl/nut/recoil lug/action must be the same for each setup. Change any 1 and the whole megillah doesn't work correctly.

    I'm looking for an easier/better way.
    Thanks;

    Red loctite the barrel nut to the barrel

    I mark the barrel and the nut with a sharp prick punch. All components must remain the same. Line up the 2 punch marks (witness) and then check with go/nogo gauge. Unless you miss by a full turn, you will be very very close. I was going to go the permanent nut attachment route, ie. red locktite or set screw, etc., but decided it would be too easy to change lug or something else and it negates the "nut".
