    6.5mm X 47 Build

Have all the necessary components for my next build with the exception of the McGowen 26" 1-8" ss barrel. Chassis is XLR Element with MDT fixed stock adapter and Luth-AR MBA-1 stock. Action is Rem model 700 single shot with bolt stop and ejector removed and with Calvin Elite trigger.

Even though this thread ended up in the off-topic area, I couldn't just leave this thread with an unfinished rifle. So here are some progress photos.

1st up was to marry the action and the barrel.

I decided to do a skim bed even with having a chassis system. Here we are ready to apply the epoxy.

Epoxy applied, barreled action back in chassis and clean-up began on excess epoxy.

Rifle all together. Next to install scope and begin load development.

Thanks folks. Hope to get to the range tomorrow, weather permitting. Will begin barrel break-in/sight in with factory Lapua 139gr ammo.

Made it to the range this morning and shot a total of 15 rounds. 5 to zero and 2 groups of five for accuracy.

I believe it definitely is going to be a shooter, limited by my abilities on the trigger.

    Hey Scooter.

    I'm planning on 4 different bullets. 123gr(4PL6018) & 139gr(4PL6032) Lapua Scenar OTMs. 130gr Match-VLD-Target( #26503) & 140gr(Match BT Long Range VLD Target(#26409) Bergers

Sounds good, I'll be keeping up with this thread to see how things turn out. I'm thinking of a 6.5 something in the future.

Have begun load development with 140gr Bergers, groups using N540 were so so, but RE-15 looks promising. Still have Varget and 4350 loads to try.

Once again at the range. It looks like I have found the best combo for the 140gr Bergers using Varget. Eventually I will do some tweaking of distances from the lands, but I am pretty confident the present loading looks good. I was able to get a couple of groups in the .2s using H4350 so maybe some tweaks for those loadings would tighten the groups. A .187" with Varget is quite alright for the time being. This will probably be last post as there doesn't seem to be much interest in the further development of this rifle.

    Time to stretch.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

I wished I could stretch it out. But only 100 yds range is available to me.

    Very nice.

May I know if your receiver and bolt is in stock form? If so, any problem with the big firing pin on small rifle primer?

Thinking of building a 6BR Norma.

    Thanks.

The action and bolt are in stock form and have not been trued or bolt bushed and firing pin changed. The following photo shows that to-date there has not been any problems with primer strikes. I believe that the performance to-date of the rifle tends to show that it may not be necessary in all cases to have an action trued and other performance related mods done to achieve good groups. However, long range shooting may show the need for the mods.

Decided to buy a receiver and order a bolt from PTG with .062 firing pin and M16 mini extractor. Still undecided between McGowen and Criterion barrel.
How do you like your McGowen barrel.
How does it compare to your Bartlein barrel? Planning to build a 6mm BR Norma. Thanks.

    Pic of the receiver.

The jury is still out on the Bartlein compared to the McGowen. Haven't really finished up load development on either one. However, already getting in the high .100" groups with the McGowen @100 yds. Yet to break into the .100s with the Bartlein. This is the second McGowen and the 300 Win Mag is a shooter too.

If you decide to go with a Remage and a McGowen then I recommend The Barrel Outlet in Hamond LA, specifically Nick to do the work. If you go Bartlein I recommend Southern Precision (Bugholes.com) and you have the choice of Remage or traditional fitting.
