Anyone build on a hog hunter?

Has anyone here used a hog hunter action for a build? Looks to be the cheapest gun to buy in order to get the action. I see it is a top bolt release and might be available in a long action in 338 federal?

Yes, I have a build in .308 that has proved to be a tack driver. Cheapest Savage model 11, top bolt release your will find with a 20" heavy contour threaded barrel. The 338 Federal is a short action cartridge. Savage does not offer the Savage Hog Hunter in 300 Win Mag anymore which was the long action model. Distributors may still have some in inventory. The Cabela's 12FV is another top bolt release Savage action being used for builds. But it has a 26" varmint profile barrel. I like the factory synthetic beavertail forearm stock on the 12FV better than the 11 Hog Hunter stock.

Jpdown thanks for the reply. I guess the hog hunter won't work for me then. I'm building a 6.5-284 and I need/want a long action. I guess it's either an axis or 111 fcns then as far as the cheapest to buy.

Take a look at the 11/111 Trophy hunter XP package.... $630.00 compared to $792.00 for the FCNS... Gives you a scope that you can sell for about $80.00 and lowers the over cost as well.

Cabelas has the 16/116 XP package on sale right now for $550.00.... That's a good one too.

Thanks sagerat, I'm leaning towards a Boyd's laminate and it says I need to buy all the bottom metal if I go with an XP. Apparrently the XP is all plastic. XP = Xtra plastic ? 😂

Looks like about $130. Does this sound right?

Yes, that's about right... I think it's closer to $150 after shipping charges. You will have to get at the least... The bottom for the mag (just squeeze it and it pops off) and the mag housing for laminate stocks. You can reuse the trigger guard, but I went ahead and got metal for that too.

You'll have to replace the bottom metal for any Boyds Laminate you get, other than the axis.
