Savage 99 RS 1949

I recently purchased a 99 RS with the correct peep and factory sling. It is in Mint Condition, it spent most of it's life in the gun cabinet. How rare is this rifle, and what is it's value? If anybody could help me I would appreciate it. This is my first Savage.

Yep, need a pic. Alot of guys think they have an RS and it doesn't turn out to be.

Couple questions, is the serial number under 500,000?

Are the sling studs flat on the bottom?

What peep sight is on it?

The serial number is 5311xx, it has a redfield peep, the swivel studs are a sort of rounded tapered type like on old Winchesters I own. The original connectors on the sling have been replaced with QD type (dumb move by someone) it is D&T, and the Savage 99 script is on the side, not where mount screw holes are. I don't really know how to post a photo yet. I installed an older Redfield one piece scope mount ad a vintage Weaver 2.5x on the rifle.

Sounds more like a model R not an RS.

I was told by seller who has multiple 99's that it is an RS why do you think different?

It's real hard to prove a post war RS is an RS.

Anybody that can screw on a Redfield receiver sight can make their gun into an RS.

Also, just what is a post war factory sling? Never seen one.

What kind of peep sight is on it? Redfield or Lyman?

Thanks, With these photos, and photos and info from other sites, I have indeed determined that my 99 is indeed a 99RS made between 1949 and 1950.

The peep is a redfield, which is correct, and the sling is a basic military type, but the "clip" type connectors have been replaced. It is a 99RS I am certain of it, from many detailed photos I aquired from other firearms sites.

Only one way for certain and that's a letter from the historian at Savage Arms.

I'm not trying to be insulting but I can turn one of my post war R's into an RS in less than 2 minutes.

Also no such animal as a 49 RS only EG's were made in 49. Wouldn't have come with clip type connectors it would have come with sling eyes and used sling hooks.

Sling eyes are what I have, and sling hooks are what I meant are missing. I mistakenly called them clips. I am in the process of inquiring about a letter.

I believe EG's have a schnabel type forend.

Yes EG's do have the schnobel forearm and they were the only model made in 49, Savage began making the R's again in 1950.

Serial number dates it 1949, EG's had a schnabel forend. Mine has sling eyes. Yes there are no sling hooks on the sling at this time.
