New recoil lug does not fit in stock???

I just installed a new recoil lug from Northland and discovered it is longer than the original and won't fit in my H-S precision stock. What should I do?

    1) Cut the recoil lug and leave stock alone? or

    2) grind on the aluminum inside the stock, leave the recoil lug alone and use devcon to bed the recoil lug area?

I leaning towards grinding on the stock and bedding only the lug area. I'm just a little worried about deepening the lug area and grinding through the aluminum and leaving the forearm portion less supported.

Surely someone else has had the same dilemma and found the best solution. Thanks in advance.

First measure both lugs from the bottom of the bore to the bottom of the lug. Note the difference. Then set the stock forend upright on a bench, lay a straight edge across the recoil lug recess then take two measurement, one from the top of the straight edge to the bench and one from the top of the straight edge to the bottom of the recess. Its difference in the amount of material you'll have to play with and how much needs to be removed ( plus a little for clearance) with the new lug.

If there isn't enough stock material you have no choice but to shorten the lug.

Kind of what I was thinking.

    Modify a $28 dollar lug or a $250 stock.

but a recoil lug gets bedded so there is a chance to open up the stock for the new lug and bed the action and lug.

It's too late, I've already taken a dermal to my brand new rifle and purchased devcon putty. Tomorrow will hopefully be the big day.
