    Vortex elevation adjustment ?

I have a new Savage 10 FCP-SR with a factory installed rail. I have mounted a Vortex 6x24 HST with Vortex rings.

After sighting in to shoot zero @ 100 yards, I only have 18 MOA of elevation adjustment left.

    Is this normal ?

If I install a 20 MOA rail, that still only gives me 38 total MOA.

The scope has a total of 65 MOA adjustment for elevation.

    Thank you for any help.

That's about right man... 65 MOA of total elevation means 32.5 MOA below the mechanical center and 32.5 MOA above the mechanical center. I've never seen a scope that was zeroed at 100 yards and was also mechanically centered. You should add the 20 MOA rail if you want to shoot out to 1000 yards or so.

18 MOA is over 180" @1000yds. With the 20 MOA you should get 380" plus or minus. 31'
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

Try switching the rings front to back.

I have a 10 fpc-k that is off by 6 mils from scopes mechanical zero. Meaning it seems like the receiver has a 6 mil (20moa) backward cant. But in reality it is most likely to do with the barrel's bore not being indexed accordingly.

Get some burris zee rings. It used the rings to sight in rather than your moa adjustments.

    Thanks for all the input.

I just ordered a 20 MOA rail. I should have just enough elevation adjustment to get out to 1,000 yards.
