    1899H butt plate needed

I recently bought an 1899H that I have coveted for 55 years. Sadly it is missing its butt plate and I want to replace it with an authentic one. First question, which butt plate for a 1914 model. Second question, where is the best place to find one. I'm also concerned that in these early models the butt plate might have been hand fit, so how would I tell if it would fit my gun?
    thanks

Everything was hand-fit in those days, and manufacturing processes were less than cnc consistency, so...

finding a butt plate will require patience at least. Ebay searching for sure, maybe inquire with the Savage collectors at 24hr'fire. I'm assuming this is a carbine butt plate that wraps over the top 1/2" +/- (?), there is also an earlier version that has a narrower tab that extends another 1" along the top of the stock.

Maybe include a photo of yuor stock would be a helpful guide to which plate you need.

It most likely took the hard rubber buttplate, metal buttplates on the 1899H were a special order.

    Here's what you need.

I have an all-original, solid-frame .303 Model 1899H made in 1914, and it has a shotgun-style (flat) steel BP with the Savage logo in it.

The M-1899H's were made with both the steel BP or a hard-rubber BP.

Here's an original steel BP for sale @ $35: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/3917188...364&rmvSB=true

Numrich carries a polymer repro of the HR BP @ $14: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts...prod72256.aspx

There's also a repro with the Indian logo on Ebay @ 20: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Savage-99-tr...sAAOSwAL9Uk3y8
