    My latest build...

So I've decided to put together something I've been wanting for quite some time...I've got several of the parts in and the rest will be here next week minus the scope rings because I want the rifle in hand so I can make sure I get the right height rings.

I decided to try an Athlon Argos 6-24x50 FFP MIL scope since I'm going to be switching to Mils this season and I'm leaning toward the Athlon Cronus to replace my Gen2

    Manners stock

    ARC rings

I'll reveal the caliber when I get it all together next week but here's a teaser pic for now...and you might be able to figure it out by the pic

Hmm! Ya got me stumped.. Cmon! Give us another clue.

I'm interested in the Athlon scopes as well. Looking at the Midas BTR 4.5-27x50. They are looking like the best dollar for dollar option right now. Can't wait to see your project. And thoughts on the scope I trust.

the midis is a SFP scope at twice the price of the argos so im not sure if you care about first vs second focal plane...another clue? it will have a timney trigger in it LOL.

ill post up my thoughts and some pics of and through the scope when i get it...supposed to be here wednesday.

a new match our club is starting next year and also after some research to see just how far this caliber will actually shoot accurately.

Ooohhh! DUH! Don't know how I couldn't guess that. It's obvious now. Ah that hindsight, lol. Very cool. Looking forward to seeing it. About the scope, no im not concerned with FFP. Have always preferred SFP. Not to fond of the reticle size changing. Also, better knowing your scope allows you to range unknown distances, albeit more difficult. Would just take more training(but isn't that what's it's about anyway?) I however, do not engage in any activity where ranging distances, via my scope, is needed. Yes, the Midas is more expensive. But in a world where FFP is typically a very costly option, I can only deduce that a more expensive scope from the same manufacturer, of the typically cheaper SFP variety, must have invested the extra cost into other options. Options I do admire in an optic, namely glass quality & ruggedness.

Bolts a little close but it cycles with no issues...when CZ get their bolt handles is stock I'll buy one and have it threaded and put a longer bolt handle on it.

I'll post some group pics up Saturday after I shoot it.

So I boned outta work early today and got 50 rounds through this rifle and must say I'm pretty impressed....

#1 was at 25yds to get on #2-#5 were at 50yds...wolf match extra ammo all 10 shot groups...I've got 5 more different types of ammo to try.

I think the CZ455 is going to be a shooter when I get use to it...and the athlon Argos scope is fantastic...

So this rifle is just stupid accurate...I've shot 22s but not in years and had no idea they shot so well...this thing honestly sounds like it's suppressed...there is no pop it's like a whoosh.

Anyway I've got about 5-700 rounds through it and what a blast to shoot.

This morning at 25yds it was boring shooting 1 tiny holed 10 shot groups...here's 50 and 75yds all 10 shot groups...

This is a pile of ammo i shot yesterday....

I think we shot about 10 different brands...my rifle shoots the wolf match extra and eley edge about the same but as you can see the eley shoots a tiny bit better.

Also shot 5 over the magneto speed...1070 to 1085fps eley says 1085 on the box.

LR I have shot really tight groups at 100 yds with Lapua Midus + and Eley Tennex. You may have similar results.

I have no doubt but the problem is those two ammos are two of the most expensive 22lr ammo made...I'm pretty happy with how the eley edge shoots so I am having my paint guy pick me up 5k...with no shipping because it's local pick up and his discount 5k is $980 bucks!!
NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS would I of thought I'd be paying a thousand bucks for 22 ammo!!

There's still several things that could be done to this rifle that will improve accuracy...bedding the action would be huge...a barrel tuner and maybe cut 4" off the barrel and loose the muzzle brake...torque tuning etc.

And keep in mind the groups in the pics were shot off a bipod and a creedmoor shooting glove...the group at 50yds with the eley edge measures 0.382...I shot one 10 shot group at 25yds off a rear bag Sunday that was 0.2255...that's only 0.0015 larger than a bullet....pretty impressive for an outta the box 22 !!

Last time I bought 22 ammo you woulda needed a DUMPTRUCK to carry $1k in 22 ammo lol. I missed the huge price increase as I had plenty and didn't notice. Then I needed some subsonic stuff and almost had a coronary.

Yeah especially when you start looking at the match ammo...I set my price at $100 per 500 for the ammo I tested for this rifle...one of the guys that was out with us testing ammo on Saturday had some lapua Midas and eley tennex both $22+ per 50 I didn't test any of it because I knew it would shoot good and I'd end up spending twice as much on ammo

    My latest build...

    thanks Mr.F...

    a little up date...
love this rifle...if ida known how much fun a 22LR can be ida bought one a LONG time ago!!

the scope is fantastic i REALLY like it...i just need to get use to mils vs minutes...i got out yesterday and shot about a 160 rounds..no since keeping track as i doubt you could shoot out a 22 barrel in a life time.
i will say i think the 22LR is a FANTASTIC training aid...it will let you know right away when your doing something different or wrong...very sensitive to positioning!!
also a lot cheaper to shoot than a center fire once you add in ALL the consumables,

the timney trigger is VERY nice but just a little heavy compared to my 6CM so im going to call timney tomorrow and ask how low it will safely go if not low enough i will match my 6CM pull weight to this one..i havent check but its set at 2lbs from timney...i havent shot the 6mm in awhile and tested some 110g SMKs yesterday and had to adjust to the lighter trigger.
ive read that the CZ can be torque tuned like a savage but as good as this rifle shoots im just going to leave it at 30"lbs front and rear for now...i think if i do anything ill bed the action in devcon.

another thing thats nice is the first and second times i shot it was about 50-55degs out and yesterday was only about 30-32deg and my dopes from 25 to 100yds were exactly the same all 3 times which tells me the Eley Edge is very consistent so far...curious to see how it shoots when it gets hot out...ive chrony'd this ammo and got a 15fps ES and yesterday a 10fps ES...my buddy shooting the twin to mine except for the break had a 7fps ES with RSW50.

im going to try and get out today and shoot out to 200yds...ill see here shortly...we have about 6" of snow on the ground and the problem is my new work truck SUCKS in the snow...i REALLY miss my "93" ram charger at times like this LOL!!

ok enough droning on time for the pics....

Top left, center and lower right all 10 shot groups at 100yds the others where groups that got shot up or playing with scope adjustments getting use to the mils

Well done, looks like you definitely have a shooter and are enjoying your range time with a "light hitter". Your thread nudged me into taking a look at some shooting I did a couple of years ago with a precision AR upper that I put together. It features a Chanlynn barrel chambered by Hoffmeister. The follow spreadsheet may give you some additional brands of ammo to give a try in the future.
