    First build complete

This rifle started out as 30-06 on a flat back 111 action.
Criterion 24" lite varmint 260 rem match 1:8 twist
    Boyds pro varmint stock
    Vortex HSLR 4-16x44
    EGW base and Weaver rings
    Fluted bolt and aftermarket knob

Target is at 100 yards using 120 grain factory Nosler shooting from a bipod and rear bag. Group measured .479 It show potential.
I will be starting load development with 140 vld with lapua brass and H4831sc in a week or so.

What are your speeds with H4831sc? By the way this will be a long range deer sized game rifle.

Very similiar to what I am getting out of 28" barrel with 142 smks and h4831. 2850 over magnetospeed but mine are loaded to almost 3" so it's a single shot on a short action.

skip the VLDs and go with the hybrids...WAY higher BCs and not seating sensitive.

I would throw in a vote for the ELDX 143. Easier to load for than Berger and on game performance has been better than Berger or SMK. Killed deer from 250 to 1100 with better than Berger results. I was a Berger guy until I had to buy some ELD-M to get Creed brass. Shot some stuff with the M and now X and I really think Berger is going to have to build some tipped stuff to keep long range hunters as customers. The ELD out of my Creed expanded at an impact velocity of 1400.
I love Bergers but for LRH I feel the tipped stuff has passed the HP FOR NOW.

I've shot several deer out past 600 with my 260. Longest at 1121 yds. I've been using 142 smk. They work alright but I'm Gona try the ELD bullets this year. I shoot crop damage deer in Michigan during summer so I get a lot of hunting experience with my 260, 308 and 338 LM. The 308 runs SST bullets and those are great on deer. Which is why I'm thinking the ELD design should be decent As well. My 1121 kill was nothing more than a pin hole through the heart. Will never shoot a deer with the smk at that distance again. I was having good luck with them but there not a bullet designed for hunting (which I knew) and pushed my limit anyway. Luckily I got the deer.

The SST perform great out to 500 in that 308. They didn't hold the accuracy for the longer ranges when I tested them in my 28" CBI barrel a few years ago. The 338 is running 300 smk bullets. Killed out to 1000 yds with those. Work excellent in that. Softball size exit hole and hits like a SUV. After shooting several deer from 700 to 1000 I have full confidence in those in the 338.
