    Action type?

I've been reading a lot here and keep coming across long and short action references.......how do tell which my 11/111 trophy hunter in .308 winchester is and does it really matter? not trying to be silly just trying to become as knowledgeable about my rifle as I can be and cannot find any reference to it in the manual.
    Thanks

If it is new it should be stamped right on the barrel.

How much it matters depends on if you go to do something (like a different stock)

Most are self explanatory with 10/11 etc (to digits) being short action.

    110/111/114/116 long action.

There are some that are mixed up that look like longs and are shorts, handful but disturbing.

So if you want to know check the action screw distance, that separates things out clearly (well other than Gen 2 and 3 Short actions and I am still scratching my head over that one)

It makes a difference on stock selection. Most bolt parts are interchangeable (heads have 3 sizes from 223 - 06 family and the magnums.
