Picked up a donor action what to do??

Picked up a 110 30-06 pre accutrigger today for $250 to good a deal to pass on.. Now I need ideas what to build sometime.. Already have a 6.5x284 and a 6.5x47... Was thinking maybe change the bolt head to a magnum, something to add to the long range hunting arsenal.. Ideas might help or peak my interest.

Its a a staggered feed blind mag can I change it over to a center feed DBM? I don't care if I need to mod the action...

Good long range magnums which could fit in your action include 264 Win, 7mm Rem, 300 Win. Any of these would be good. About the magazine, that is not as certain. I went the other way with a 7 Mag to 30-06 and 270 and they fed well. The mag had a relief cut for the belt. The rounds inserted and fed well. Another option is to change to 270 Win or 25-06 which are fine long range rounds or if you want a good wildcat with really good bullet selection is a 6.5-06. Good luck with your project.

I'm making one into a 300 RUM repeater for some unknown reason. Probably wouldn't be worth it without a mill though.

    I am board with a 270.

I have always wondered what you could do with that in a Varmint Contour.

The family has had 3 x 270s, never got one to shoot all that well, good enough for hunting out to 300 on Caribou, 500 on Moose but 1.5 MOA guns.

I am going to go back to the 270 Pencil barrel I have and see if I can develop a load that shoots better than 1 MOA. We have lots of component for it so some hope.

A center feed magazine can be made to work with a stagger feed action.

Some good ideas. I wish savage would get their website fixed so part finder works again.. I might have to check out a 280 AI or maybe go magnum... I could look at the 6.5-06 I just hate the -06 shoulder angle but if they shoot well who cares..

The 6.5/06 is a great round. But, since You already have the 6.5/284, it would be a lateral move. To put it another way, the 6.5/284 is a 6.5/06 Improved ;-)).

The world is your oyster lol.
Keep the bolt head and do a 280AI, 06AI or 338-06AI. A 338 250 gr loafing along at 2550 or so is a LR hammer.
Swap to a magnum head AND you name it. I just built a 7SAUM on a LA and the LR ballistics are crazy. It's slinging 175ELDX at 3150 with a 27" tube. Quite a bit faster than I expected but its within inches 0f a 338 Lapua for wind out to 1700 and doesn't go transonic till 1700. I wouldn't build one with the same expectations as I feel I got really lucky.
Still you can build ANYTHING you want. 28 Nosler, 300 RUM, 338 Edge. I like HORSEPOWER for LRH rigs. Nice litte 6.5s can get by at LR but I like to hit fast and hard with a large pill. Just me.

Thise are some good options I did have the 28 Nosler and 300 RUM idea just not sure how to get them to mag feed from a detachable thinking maybe CDI bottom metal and mags would be the ticket. Already have a 338 win mag that I don't shoot that much cause it kicks like a mule.. Unless it's got a good break I don't like shooting the big stuff.. The saum with 180 bergers has had my attention for awhile anyway, long action might be nice for seating farther out..

Just run the 06' for a bit. Load up some 210 Berger VLD's. See what the rifle is capable of!

Agree on 6.5-06. It will give you ballistics almost as good as a 6.5-284 with better barrel life.

The LA SAUM I built is a hammer. Of course my barrel is running 200 faster than I thought it would. My COAL is 3.09 so there is a LOT of extra powder room. The Norma brass is nice, I would make sure I bought enough to last the barrel, I don't trust brass availability anymore.

The 280 AI should fit the bill quite nicely. Respectable speed with the heavies and better barrel life than the mags and nosler cartridges.
