Long action with short action magazine

Bought a used 110E in 243 with synthetic stock on another forum (pre-accutrigger and accustock).
The seller got it in a trade and does not know much about it. However I was wondering about this long action for a short action cartridge. The mag box is small and the action has a metal lip on it. That means that
for a repeater the gun is unable to be converted to a long action cartridge.
Will not be a problem at this point, as I am rebarreling to a 243win with an Xcaliber tube, however I was wondering if it worth the hassle to send it to get machined for either plain long action blind magazine or a DBM?
Would be the time as I have taken everything apart.

    Thanks

I'm assuming the metal lip you refer to is on the bolt baffle right after the bolt face. This is how Savage shortens the bolt throw for models like yours. If you really wanted to you can take the baffle off and sand/ grind the extension off until it will cycle a long action cartridge. Or you can order a long action baffle from Gun Shack or Midway for around $6.
