Anyone finding success seating amax deep??

Im shooting 178g in .308. Suggested oal is 2.800. Seated 2 at 2.785 by mistake today and put them through the same hole at 150yd. Maybe a fluke but My previous loadings show improvement as i seat deeper. I have only worked between 2.825 and 2.800 so far. Should i spend some time at 2.700 to2.800?

You can drive yourself insane. If it works, do it. Be careful of crushing powder as you seat (or maybe that is the secret to great shooting).

I know A-Max doesn't like being close to the lands. Tried it once. Looked like a shotgun blast. Was always curious backing off beyond 2.80 would have any affect. Try it again and let us know how it goes. May have to try it myself. Currently shoot 178 ELD-X out of my 10T with great success.

What powder in the 10T? Im shooting 12fv.I am using imr4895 and ppl have said its too fast and that varget would be better as its slower. Nosler shows 4895 as most accurate in 175-180 gr

If it shoots consistently better, it is not a fluke.

4064 and varget seem to be the go to powders and your right accuracy trumps speed.

Varget. 4350 was doing ok but once I tried varget, tightened right up. 43.9 grains of varget with overall length of 2.800. 3 shots in a quarter (when I'm not flinching). Dam fliers.

This works for most low drag bullets. I found my .308 COL 0.127 off the lands

and dont be afraid to seat them deeper...like up to .060 or more off the lands...i shot 240g SMKs in my 300wm for awhile and they shot best at .070 off.

Well i shot them. Got worse as i went deeper, albeit slightly. Looks like 2.8-2.81 is the best

No supposing, accuracy is ALWAYS the most important. Scopes have adjustment, just dial as needed.

    100% on the money.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that if it bleeds, I can kill it.

In 1968 when I bought my first Lee Loader I just used Hornady bullets with a cannelure and seated them to the middle of the cannelure.

Then in 1969 I bought a green plastic Lyman vernier caliper and a complete set of Lee powder scoops and life got more complicated.

Do you ever long for the simple life and not knowing about all the reloading equipment you didn't have and didn't know you needed.

^Yes^ Sometimes I take the old Lee Loader along out to the home range, and use the truck tailgate as a reloading bench. It's very satisfying.

I make a lot of the stuff I use for reloading. It's amazing how much can be done and learned from the use of a spent caseing.

This is going to be more important as time goes on, because I'm going to have less space for all that "stuff".
