    Go to this sight http://www.savage99.com/savage99_dates.htm

and plug in the serial number. They were discontinued in 1914 so it's old!! BTW, the .32-40 is one of my favorites!! I have an 1893 Marlin in .32-40 but an 1899 in .32-40 and/or .38-55 is one of my grail guns!! That one is a treasure!! You can makes cases be necking up .30-30 brass, they come up a little short but work fine. It's easier than forming from 38-55 cases. I run them through a .32 Spec die then the .32-40 dies. 8.2 grains of Unique and a 170 grain cast bullet.

It should be on the bottom in front of the trigger guard.

Would that be correct if the model number is 1899?

Got me confused!! The .32-40 was only made from 1903-1917, so that ser# pre-dates that by eight years. Wonder if it's an 1895 with 1899 parts!!?? Some of the 1895 actions were retrofitted with 1899 parts in 1900.

    How's the bore on it?

    Whats the serial number?

Your doing something wrong with the date calculator. Hope your not putting the decimal point in.

What shape is the bore in?? Look on Gunbroker or some other auction sight and see what they are going for, then deduct about 30% for a realistic value. I doubt if you will find another one for sale in .32-40, since that is probably one of the rarest chamberings, discontinued in 1917, along with the .25-35 and .38-55. I paid around $600 each for mine, but I don't like to put a price on somebody else's rifle.

That gun has been reblued, will hurt the value of it. They even reblued the lever, to bad.

Puts it into the shooter class, not for a collector but should still fetch an all right price because it's in a pretty uncommon caliber to find an 1899 in.
