It's a small shank. Check out the second pic in this link.

But, having a long action 6.5 Creedmore is a little... odd.
Hello all,
First time posting here, I have question about my rifle, its a 116 bear hunter in .338 win mag. I am looking to rebarrel it for a 20" 6.5 creedmoor carbon barrel for lugging around the AZ mountains for Coues Deer. I did some research on this site and I can't seem to get a definitive answer on if it is a large or small shank receiver. attatched are some images of the barrel nut, I don't see a step so I am assuming its a standard shank reciever.

Thanks! I know its going to be a lil odd but I put some dummy 6.5 Creedmoor rds into the mag well and it does strip the rds into the chamber pretty well....... its going to be a hunting gun so as long as it feeds reliably I am happy!
Don't know what you're paying for that carbon fiber barrel. But you could probably find a 6.5 lightweight hunter for a similar price.

I wish, Its easier to hide a barrel from the wife then it is a rifle
