Rascal stock sights with EGW base?

Hello all, i'm looking to put a red dot on my son's rascal (he's 5) he's getting a little discouraged with the iron's so I figure i'd try helping out by putting a red dot or maybe a 1-3 optic untill he get's a little older and understands sight alignment.

what I wanted to know is does anyone have the egw scope base on a rascal and if you do can you still use the factory iron sights without a optic mounted? or does it get in the way?

I like the looks of the egw and the fact it's once piece. i'd prefer it over the chincy two piece factory mounts unless it blocks the sights (don't want to have to remove the base to go back and forth from optic and irons)
