I'm replaced them before, you can't hurt anything by hitting the retaining pin out. Only three little parts in there, the extractor, the spring and the starter. It's real easy.
I have a Whippet, Stevens Model 94C in .410 bore
It has a broken extractor. I picked up a new one but: has anyone ever taken the old one out of a single shot shotgun?? I have no desire to start pounding on the cross-pin with a hammer and punch without knowing what I'm pounding on!!!

Savage- "never say never".
Thank you, sir. I have plenty of time over the holidays so now I have a project. The worse that happens is I mess up a $100 Dollar shotgun!!!
