5 Shots is the minimum, quite humbling.
I sometimes shoot 9 after a bad out of group one to prove to myself it was something odd happened.
Each one tends to shoot deferent, I take my RCBS Junior to the range with a seating die and play with it.
After much screwing around / experimenting with 175g Nosler CC's and IMR-4064 I have found what I believe is the sweet spot on this pipe. Is a 26" CBI, 1-10 twist Savage small-shank Varmint drop-in from Jim @ Nothland.
41.9g IMR-4064 in Lapua brass with Nosler 175 CC's seated Long so at 0.005-0.007 Off Of Lands. Round is not mag. Compatible and regular .308 Ammo Box won't close one them...too long. Have't chrono'ed it yet so don't know speed.
3 rnds in a round-robin load & seating depth ladder came up with 0.183 Minute @ 100 yds. Tip of your pinkie won't fit in that hole.
Must measure chamber well and use a comparator to get this consistent. Too much variation in Meplat length.
God this chamber is LONG...
Just what I found. Maybe can be of help to someone else chasing the bug-holes😜

On the other hand, my 308win Shilen pre-fit has very short freebore.
All my Shilen pre-fits have short freebore
But I guess it's easier to lengthen the freebore with a throater than to shorten the freebore.
That's the nice thing about 30-06, you have lots of case capacity and can play to your hearts content with COAL!
