Barnett tool in Kenilworth, nj has pretty much everything. They've been around forever so they might have some in the back collecting dust

You could also have a local machine shop make you some out of a different, slightly larger screw. They could put it in the lathe and reduce the diameter and then thread the rod to the correct thread pitch

    Or re-tap the existing bosses.

Why would Savage pick such an odd thread/pitch?

Quit looking for the holy grail, and just open them up to 1/4-28.

There is a thread just like this one on Rimfire Central and the conclusion was that absolutely NONE of the major fastener suppliers (Bolt Depot, McMaster, Grainger, Fastenal, etc.) carry #12-32 bolts in any length, material or head type. None. DIP does sell them in 1" length and Savage sells their 0.9" long OEM screws but nothing else is commercially available. If you want something else it's going to be a DIY project. There are #12-32 taps and dies available or a use lathe to make them from scratch.

There's plenty of meat to work with...and I do this on a regular basis.

Do you do any prep work or just stick a 1/4"-28 tap in there and go? I'd like to try this on my next MKII.

Picked up some longer 12-32s from Midway. Looks like they will be long enough to cut the heads off of and use as guides during the bedding process. Busy time of year will post more as time allows. Thanks to all for the great ideas so far.
