Help me identify this Savage

I volunteered at our local range with sighting in weekend. One of these other volunteers had his Savage in 308 out there. Let me shoot it and I am hooked.

Guy said it was a Savage "Tac" model. 20" (I assume) heavy barrel model. Had a digital camo finish.

Cannot find this or anything similar on the Savage site. Any help? Pic if it helps

That was the Model 10 Precision Carbine. they came out in 2008 or 2009 and were offered for a few years. Basically a 10FP but with a digital camo stock. Was offered in .223 and .308

Great article! The author states he tried different powders and switched from BR-4 to Rem 7 1/2 primer to "mimic the formula that everyone else was having success with" when using the 69 gr. SMK however, he doesn't say what powder or how much.

Do you have any information regarding the formula he writes of? How may grains of what powder per the Sierra loading manual?

I notice that Nosler produces the "kiss'n cousin" of the 69SMK with their 69 gr. Custom Competition and their manual lists 23.5 gr. of A-2230 as their most accurate load tested, and second fastest at 2870 fps. That was out of 7 twist barrel with WSR primer though.

I would like to try his tested load formula in a new 12FV in 223 while working the load up properly of course. And from the information Sierra provided, I am assuming loading short of the lands is preferred to touching or into the lands.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Considering that article is from 7 years ago I highly doubt Pat has a clue what powder/charge weight he was using anymore. Last I checked he wasn't even shooting rifles anymore due to a neck/shoulder issue and as a result he's really gotten into both Bullseye and GSSF handgun competition.
