    Model 10P bottom metal deflecting

Was at a long range shooting school (BangSteel, in Virginia. Well worth it). Recorded some unexpected variation. School staff took a look at rifle and discovered loose action screws. When they torqued them up to 40 in lb., the trigger would not cock. Long story short, eventually it was discovered that there was a gap between the bottom metal and the post where the action screw is anchored. When full torque is applied, the bottom metal deflects into that gap, causing the trigger to malfunction. Their solution was to place a washer in the gap, preventing the deflection. So far, that seems to work. This rifle is a model 10P, with Accutrigger but not an Accustock.

    Anyone else have this experience?

I spoke with Savage Customer Service. They said I could send it in and have their gunsmith look at it. Not sure what is the proper course of action at this point.

It ain't worth sending back to savage. If the washer works, it's good. You might want to remove the washer, though, and bed the trigger guard (fill gap with JB weld, for example) and call it good. Either way, I would not worry about it.
